Getting To Our Premises

From Kampala:
Take the main Kenya highway towards Jinja. Before crossing the Owen Falls dam just outside Jinja turn left in Njeru at the road sign-posted to Kayunga. This is the last left turn before you would cross the damn. Approximately 4 kilometres along Kayunga road you will pass through Naminya Trading Centre. Look out for our sign near the bottom of the hill. Then turn right and follow the unsealed road for approximately 1 kilometre to the end. (if raining we recommend 4x4, or call us to arrange a lift).

You can catch a matatu minivan taxi from Kampala to the turn off at Nile Breweries (see the Map). From there catch a boda boda (motorcycle taxi) the last few kilometres. (boda boda should be no more than 5000 Ush)

Nalubale Rafting is also based at our premises. They run a bus to and from Kampala on days when they have a rafting trip on. Speak to Nalubale rafting, to check availability (call: +256 782 638 938 or +256 782 638 939 or send an email to bookings@nalubalerafting.com).

A private taxi from Kampala and back is another option but unless you have at least 4 riders in your group it is an expensive option. (approx 100,000 Ush)

From Bujagali Falls, Nile River Explorers, Eden Rock, and Jinja Nile Resort:
Head toward Jinja town and turn right at the first roundabout. Cross the Owen Falls dam into Njeru and turn right at the first road on the far side of the dam, signed posted to Kayunga. Follow the road about 4 Kilometres through Naminya village and turn right at our sign onto the unsealed road and follow for 1 Km to the end.

From the Haven or Hairy Lemon
Return to the sealed road (Kayunga Rd), then turn left heading towards Jinja, we are 10 mins drive from the Haven or 30 minutes drive from the Hairy Lemon. Our turn off is on the left hand side.

Jinja Transport Options

  1. Taxi- Catch a taxi from any accommodation around Jinja. Nile River Explorers, Nile Porch, Jinja Nile Resort, Nile High Camp (Adrift), Speke Camp, Gately On Nile, The Palm Tree, Kingfisher and The Haven. This is the best option for groups of 4 + riders. The taxi will generally wait for you to finish the ride as part of the price. About 15 minutes travel from Jinja town or 20 minutes from Bujagali falls. (should be no more than 35,000 Ush return, taxis will generally wait for your group to finish.)
  2. Motorcycle Taxis - boda bodas are around everywhere and can get you to our premises easily. 1 passenger per bike recommended. About 20-25 minutes travel from Jinja town or Bujagali falls. Boda boda taxis will generally wait for you to finish your ride. (should be no more than 10,000 Ush return from anywhere around Jinja)
  3. River Crossing- At times a speed boat crossing can be arranged from Nile River Explorers campsite at Bujagali Falls. Speak to management for details. (078 232 0552). Please be aware if you take the speed boat option, the speed boat comes to the island in front of Nile Horseback Safaris, you then walk across the island, and are transported by local fishman's boat to the peninsula at the front of our premises. You then have to walk up a hill. It takes about 20-25 minutes to get here. You need at least a little fitness for this transport option as the last hill requires you to expend a little energy.

PLEASE NOTE

  • Only a few taxi or boda boda drivers in Jinja know where our premises are. Unless you hire a boda boda from outside Nile River Explorers Campsite you may end up somewhere else. We can organise taxis and boda boda taxis drivers that know our premises to pick you up, and ensure you are not ripped off. If possible print the map or mention that you need to go to Naminya Village near Njeru as most Jinja taxi drivers will know the area but not that there is horse riding in Jinja.
  • Africa runs at a more relaxed pace compared to the rest of the world. The above travel times are how long it should take to get to Nile Horseback Safaris, however its probably wise to organise your leaving time 15 minutes earlier than the above mentioned travel times to arrive for your safari on time and avoid possibly having to have your safari cut short. Bodas do break down, drivers can be late, the reasons are endless but being late if relying on local transport in Africa is almost the normal thing. If you are running late please call and let us know if possible.
